Odour, rumors of gas leak send Mangaloreans into tizzy

Mangalore, Sep 20: Residents of Mangalore, Surathkal and nearby areas hit panic mode suspecting a gas leakage in the region.

Strong stench of LPG engulfed Kulur, Baikampady, Surathkal, Yeyyadi, Mangalore, Bajal, Padil and nearby places, leaving the residents praying for life.

Since Friday noon gas leakage smell is spread over places like, Kulur, Bykampady, Suratkal, yeyyday, Mangalore, Bajal, Padil and other places kept residents here in dilemma.

Print and electronic media offices in the city including 'Coastaldigest.com' too were kept busy answering calls from frantic citizens who wanted to know the truth with regard to the matter.

Speaking in this regard, Deputy Commissioner N Prakash said that there was no need to worry at all.
Ruling out the possibility of gas leakage, he said that though the reason for the same has not yet been ascertained, he has sent MCC Commissioner and officials from Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to conduct inspection. "Even MRPL has been asked to inspect the industrial areas," he said.
