Moodbidri, Sep 25: Atmosphere turned tense for some time in Moodbidri after a fight between renowned advocate Shanti Prasad Hegde and a student turned violent.
Shanti Prasad Hegde is the younger brother of State Bar Council vice president P P Hegde.
It is said that at 2 p.m., Mr Hegde was traveling along with his daughter in his car. The car hit Tasir Ahmed (20), a student when Mr Hegde was reversing the vehicle near Moodbidri bus stand.
The student, who sustained injuries, began to shout at Mr Hegde. This led to a heated argument between the two and the injured student allegedly tried to hold advocate's collar. At this juncture, Mr Hegde and a group of his supporters brutally assaulted the student.
Mr Hegde hit on the student's head with his revolver and even fired a few round of bullets in the air.
The student managed to run away and reportedly hid himself inside Jumma Masjid.
While a section of people wanted to rake up the issue, the presence of mind of certain Muslim community leaders averted a possible ruckus.
The police was called and the student was taken into custody, putting an end to pandemonium.
The student, who has severe injuries on his head, has been admitted to a government hospital, police sources said.
It could be recalled here that Mr Hegde had been reportedly attacked in the past also.
