
Three of the five have been identified and they are Abdul Rehman, Sameer and Haneef. They have been admitted to Wenlock Hospital and the condition of one of them is said to be critical.
The five were transporting the cattle in a lorry which knocked down a biker near Kudupu temple injuring him severely. While the local residents rushed to the spot to save the injured biker identified as Santhosh, the lorry fled the scene, raging the onlookers.
Some local residents chased the lorry and in a bid to escape them the driver lost control over the vehicle and the lorry went off road.
The locals found 20 cattle tied up in the lorry. On seeing the cattle, the local residents thrashed the five men in the lorry. It was learnt that they were transporting the cattle from North Karnataka in the lorry bearing Udupi registration number.
Kankanady rural police have registered the case.
