Bantwal, May 27: Most of the shops and offices remained closed in Kalladka town of Bantwal taluk on Saturday a day after a Muslim youth was stabbed and another one was attacked by alleged saffron activists.

The presence of two rival groups on roads in Kalladka in the morning forced the police to beef up security arrangements in the area.
According to sources, a group of people protesting against yesterday’s violence, encouraged the bandh while another group under the leadership of RSS veteran Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat tried to encourage some people to open their shops.
Amidst fears of recurrence of violence in the area, authorities clamped week-long prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code across Bantwal taluk from 9 a.m. on May 27 to 6 p.m. on June 2.
The trouble began in Kalladka on Friday afternoon, when a local Muslim youth was stabbed by a gang of miscreants when he was returning home after attending prayers in mosque.
Later, a group of miscreants pelted stones at shops belonging to Muslims in Kalladka. One Muslim youth suffered injuries in the stone pelting.
Mohammed Hashir, who was admitted to a private hospital after stabbing, has identified the accused as Mithun, Amit and Yathin, the three local youth who not only have links with saffron groups but also had indulged in several activities in the past. Mithun had recently secured bail in an attempt to murder case.
Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, the Superintend of Police of Dakshina Kannada and other senior police officers have camped in the trouble-hit area.
