Karwar, May 23: Union Minister Anant Kumar Hegde earned a distinction of retaining his Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha seat with highest margin of 4,79,649 votes. Hegde defeated his nearest rival JDS candidate Anand Asnotikar.
After all rounds of counting, Hegde has bagged 7,86,042 votes and Asnotikar, the runner-up, has garnered only 3,06,393.
This is the sixth victory for the hardline saffron leader in the constituency who is known for his provocative speeches and physical assaults. In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Hegde beat Prashant R Deshpande of Congress by receiving 54.60 per cent of the votes cast in this constituency.
At the same time former Union and State Minister V Srinivas Prasad registered win with lowest margin in the State.
He defeated Congress Candidate and sitting MP Druvanarayana by a margin of 833 votes to clinch the Chamarajanagara (Rserved) seat.
