Belagavi, Jun 19: A major shuffle of Congress ministers in the HD Kumaraswamy government appears on the anvil in December — if the coalition government pulls through till then. The Congress high command is likely to seek the resignation of all its ministers and inject fresh faces in the cabinet, a decision which will mean some ministerial aspirants who are openly voicing dissent would get a berth.
The idea was mooted by Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah when two independents were inducted into the cabinet, but a decision on the issue was put on hold.
Sugar and ports minister RB Thimmapur, in Belagavi on Tuesday, virtually confirmed ministers would resign from the cabinet en masse, saying: “We are ready to tender our resignation in December if the high command instructs us to do so.”
Thimmapur suggested the two independents — H Nagesh and R Shankar — were inducted into the cabinet to save the government. He claimed rebels in the Congress were only fooling the BJP and statements that the coalition government would collapse after the Lok Sabha polls were false.
