Hubballi/Belagavi, Dec 3: Fickle weather and flight change led to an unscheduled parley between Vokkaliga heavyweights DK Shivakumar and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy at Hubballi airport on Monday.

The Congress and JD(S) politicians spoke behind closed doors in the airport’s VIP lounge, reportedly discussing a possible post-poll alliance between the two parties in case BJP falls short of the six seats it needs to stay in power.

Veteran Congress figure and former Union minister M Veerappa Moily also provided fuel to the speculation about a patch-up between the two parties. He reiterated that Congress would join hands with JD(S) after the results of the bypolls were announced on December 9.

Moily, who was in Hunsur, Mysuru district, said the Congress high command would intervene and strike a deal and that currently, none of the state party members were opposed to the idea.

On who would lead the new alliance, Moily said the issue was inconsequential at this juncture, adding it would be decided later and the arrangement followed in Maharashtra had opened new avenues. Kumaraswamy’s authority as the head of the previous coalition government was repeatedly challenged by loyalists of Congress’s Siddaramaiah.

On Monday, Shivakumar was supposed to visit Belagavi to campaign for Congress candidates, but he cut short the trip after he was summoned by income tax officials in Bengaluru. He was waiting at Hubbali airport to board a flight for Bengaluru. Around the same time, Kumaraswamy, who had been travelling from Belagavi to Chikkaballapur for campaigning, was forced to land in Hubballi because of bad weather. The circumstances led to a chance meeting between the two.

Party sources said Kumaraswamy and Shivakumar spoke about burying differences for the time being and forging a 2018-like partnership to take on BJP. The developments in Maharashtra, where a three-party coalition of Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP outwitted BJP, featured prominently in the discussion.

The two refused to speak to media after the meeting.

JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda, who was campaigning in Gokak, Belagavi district, took a different position on a possible alliance on Monday, days after hinting that he was open to a partnership with Sonia Gandhiled Congress. He said he would strengthen his party, keeping it away from both Congress and BJP.

“I have had experience (of running a government) with both parties. Keeping both at a distance, saying namasakara to both of them, I will work beyond my limits to strengthen my party,” he said.

Kumaraswamy, meanwhile, said in Belagavi he was not interested in becoming the chief minister again. He said senior Congressmen like Mallikarjun Kharge, Moily and Siddaramaiah might be commenting on a potential partnership based on their own calculations. “But things never go as per one’s calculations,” he said.

Kumaraswamy predicted JD(S) would win six to eight seats out the 15 constituencies where bypolls are scheduled.

Karwar, May 5: What commenced as a mere exchange of words between spouses swiftly transmuted into a calamitous ordeal, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of their innocent offspring. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded in the serene confines of Halamaddy village in the picturesque expanse of Dandeli, nestled within the idyllic expanse of Uttara Kannada district.

In the throes of a fervent dispute with her spouse, the aggrieved wife, succumbing to an overwhelming surge of emotions, callously propelled their tender six-year-old progeny into the somber depths of a nearby canal, thereafter alerting the local populace to her grievous act.

Promptly apprised of the distressing occurrence by concerned bystanders, the authorities were swiftly summoned to the scene to confront the harrowing aftermath.

Responding to the distress call, the diligent officers of Dandeli rural police swiftly converged upon the site where the innocent child had been cast into the unforgiving waters of the canal, subsequently effecting the retrieval of the child's lifeless form.

Regrettably, it was discerned that a portion of the child's remains had been tragically claimed by the lurking jaws of a predatory crocodile.

Bengaluru, May 6: Arrested JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna, the son of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, on Sunday said that there is no evidence against him in the sex video scandal kidnapping case and that it was a "conspiracy" against him.

Talking to the media, while being taken for a medical test before being produced in front of a court here, Revanna stated that a kidnapping case had been lodged against him though he does not have 'one black mark' against him in his entire career of 40 years.

"Without evidence, I have been targeted... All allegations against me are false. My arrest has been made out of ill intention," he claimed.

"The case was lodged on April 28, then, they did not have any evidence. Later, the fake evidence was created on May 2 and I was fixed," he alleged.

Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara stated on Sunday that a Blue Corner notice has already been issued against Revanna's son and MP Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the sex video scandal, as he is believed to be abroad.

"The Interpol will communicate to all nations and he will be located. Once he is located, the SIT will take a call on how he should be secured and brought back to India," he added.

Revanna was arrested on Saturday on charges of kidnapping one of the victims of the sex video scandal.

Parameshwara further maintained that the arrest of Revanna has saddened JD-S leaders and if action was not taken, the SIT would be blamed too.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge refused to comment on the alleged sex video scandal involving Prajwal Revanna.

About Revanna's arrest, he said that the SIT would initiate action as per the law. "Those indulging in such acts must be taught a lesson and justice should be given to the families of victims. No one can escape the law. No one should use this case politically," he stated.

The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) on Monday responded to Karnataka’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) regarding a blue corner notice issued against JDS MP Prajwal Revanna.

In its response, Interpol said that all 196 member countries were alerted to identify and report if Prajwal Revanna is spotted at any port in their jurisdiction.

The Karnataka government issued a Blue Corner Notice on Sunday against Prajwal Revanna, who is facing allegations of sexual abuse by his staff members.

A Blue Corner Notice is issued by the international police cooperation body to collect additional information from its member countries about a person’s identity, location or activities about a crime.

The notice was issued after the 33-year-old Hassan MP reportedly flew to Germany soon after the Karnataka State Commission for Women chairperson Nagalakshmi Chowdhary wrote to the CM to order a probe into the sexual allegations against Prajwal.

Last week, the anticipatory bail application of Prajwal Revanna was also denied by Justice Santosh Gajanana Bhat’s bench of People’s Representative Court in Bengaluru.

Earlier, his MLA father and son of former Prime Minster HD Deve Gowda, HD Revanna was remanded to Karnataka SIT custody in a kidnapping-related sex scandal case.

His arrest came after the kidnapped victim was rescued from Revanna’s close assistant Rajasekhar’s farmhouse in Kalenahalli, Hunsur Taluk after the SIT conducted the rescue operation to find her, the police said.

The abduction case was filed by the son of a woman who worked at the Revannas’ house for nearly five years. He alleged that his mother was kidnapped from her home on April 29 by Satish Babanna a relative of Revanna.

The Karnataka Sex Scandal case pertains to explicit video clips allegedly involving the 33-year-old Prajwal, grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, which went viral on social media.

Those videos began to make rounds in Hassan in recent days, following which the state government constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the sexual abuse allegations against the MP.
