Mangaluru, Mar 19: The Crime Branch of Mangaluru City Police which had recently busted a fake certificate racket by conducting a raid on Mangalore Institute of Technological Science (MITS) located on TC Road in Thokottu on the outskirts of the city, has now arrested two absconding accused in connection with the case.
The arrested are Askan Sheikh (25), principal of the MITS and Asraruddin (26), both residents of Chembugudde, Thokkottu. Last week police had managed to arrest Godwin D’Souza, an employee of the MITS.
According to police, MITS used to sell fake certificates for SSLC, PUC, degree, diploma and B.Tech courses for a charge ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 45,000 ever since it started operations in June 2016. However, Askan Sheikh and Asraruddin were absconding following the police raid.
T R Suresh, Commissioner of Mangaluru City Police said a case was registered in this regard at Ullal police station and that the police were on the lookout for the absconding accused. The two main absconding accused were nabbed on Sunday. Describing the duo as the main accused in this case, Suresh said the sleuths handed them over to jurisdictional Ullal PS for further action.
CCB sleuths recovered two mobile phones from their possession; he said adding police in 2016 had nabbed Askan for a similar crime while running Mangalore Institute of Management Engineering at Mahavir (Pumpwell) Circle in Mangaluru East PS limits.
Askan was accused of similarly selling fake marks list and degree certificates through Eduexcel Consultancy operating under Mangalore Institute of Management Engineering then, Suresh said adding that CCB sleuths had busted his operations even then and seized fake marks list and degree certificates.
