Mangaluru, Dec 12: Rubbishing the claims of Sangh Parivar leaders about the cause of death of a youth in Honnavar, Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Hemant Nimbalkar has said that trouble mongers have been deliberately spreading baseless rumours on social media to divide the society on communal lines.
The dead body of Paresh Mesta was found in the Shetty lake behind Shani temple in Honnavar on December 8 a day after he went missing. As soon as the news began to spread Sangh Parivar leaders started claiming that he was a Hindutva activist and that “Muslim goondas” killed him.
In a communiqué, the IGP said the investigation officer made a questionnaire and sent it to doctors who conducted the autopsy.
In the report, the head of the team of doctors has categorically denied the death of Mesta due to injury caused by assault with weapons. He said there was no evidence suggestive of attack by hot water or chemicals like acid, assault over the head or manual strangulation.
Meanwhile, Uttara Kannada police released a reply by Dr. Shankar M. Bakkannavar, who conducted autopsy on Mesta, which in effect denies a list of “19 rumours” of how he died. However, the final post-mortem report is yet to be released, which will conclusively prove whether his death was a murder.
Meanwhile, the police arrested Timmappa Parameshwar, 43, a physical education teacher from Chandya Popular New English School, Kumta, for allegedly spreading false rumours on WhatsApp.
