Bengaluru, Jan 24: Six children and one institution from Karnatakawere conferred the Bal Shakti Puraskar and Bal Kalyan Puraskar by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
Mohamed Suhail Chinaya Salimpasha, 17, from the Mangalore got the national award for “pioneering” a breakthrough technology for diagnosing pre-symptomatic protein-energy malnutrition non-evasilvely by using paper.
Bangalore's Arunima Sen and AU Nachiketh Kumar under the innovation category, Pratyaksha BR for social service, Vinayaka M for arts and culture and Nikhil Jituri in the bravery category. Rangakahale, a child development institution working for underprivileged kids, was honoured with Bal Kalyan Puraskar.
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is being given in two categories. Twentysix children were awarded the Bal Shakti Puraskar (earlier called National Child Award) under various fields like innovation, social service, scholastic, sports, arts & culture and bravery. The bravery award is the latest addition to the list. Each award carries a medal, a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, book vouchers worth Rs 10,000, a certificate and a citation. The children will participate in the Republic Day parade.
The awardees were shortlisted from 900 applications received on a special portal created for the purpose. The winners were selected through a rigorous process of critical analysis by a committee comprising experts from disciplines like sociology, psychology, mathematics, science, art, music and sports.
