Bengaluru/Ballari, Nov 9: A day after the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch police said they were investigating former minister G Janardhana Reddy's possible role in "bailing out" Syed Ahmed Fareed in an Enforcement Directorate (ED) case involving a Rs 600-crore Ponzi scheme, three special teams on Thursday landed in Hyderabad in search of the elusive mining baron.

By evening one team got a tip that Reddy was at a close friend's apartment near Banjara Hills but, by the time police reached there, he had vanished, investigators said.

One more police team will leave for Telangana soon, a senior CCB officer told TOI, adding that Reddy had been evading police from Tuesday.

"Reddy is most likely in Hyderabad," he said. "All the three mobile numbers he uses are switched off. Before switching off his phones, Reddy had made several calls to Hyderabad and other places on the Karnataka border."

Additional commissioner of police (crime) Alok Kumar said investigators, who have asked police of other states for help to nab Reddy, had questioned Ambidant Marketing Pvt Ltd founder-director Syed Ahmed Fareed again on Thursday.

Investigators believe Reddy took 57kg of gold from Fareed, promising to pay unscrupulous Enforcement Directorate officers to let him off the hook in the investment scam.

"We have some big names involved in the case," Alok Kumar said. "We are following the trail of the money and it has changed many hands."

CCB sleuths on Thursday also raided the residence of Reddy's aide Mehfuz Ali Khan in RT Nagar, Bengaluru. Also, CCB personnel continued their searches at the Reddy's flat in Parijata Apartments near Chalukya Circle. Policemen carried documents out of the apartment as the searches continued till late in the evening.

In Ballari, armed with a search warrant, an eight-member CCB team led by ACP Manjunath Chowdary swooped down on Reddy's house and offices at 8am. Reddy's wife Aruna Lakshmi was present during the search and affixed her signature on the panchanama (witness record) copy.

Her father Parameshwara Reddy told reporters later that he cooperated with the investigators. The searches evidently upset her mother Nagalakshmamma, and Reddy's friend and BJP leader B Sreeramulu soon arrived in an SUV to placate her. CCB police summoned women personnel, who explained to Nagalakshmamma the legality of the operation, after which she too cooperated with the officers.

Officers recorded the operation on their cellphones as they scoured the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms, knocked on walls and opened all lockers in the presence of Sreeramulu and fellow party leader K Ramachandra Reddy.

Around 3.15pm, they left for Reddy's Obulapuram Mining Corporation office, 500m from Reddy's house. Searches at the office concluded around 6pm.

The monitoring centre also pointed out that when comparing the maximum temperature recorded in Karnataka in the past seven years – between 2017 and 2024 – April 30, 2024 recorded the highest, 45.6 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, in a statement released by the India Meteorological Department in Bengaluru, the trough/wind discontinuity from southeast Madhya Pradesh to South Interior Karnataka (SIK), across Vidarbha, Marathawada and North Interior Karnataka (NIK) extending up to 1.5km above mean sea level persists.

But as per IMD, the department issued a severe heat (red) alert only when the actual maximum temperature crosses 47 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperatures are likely to continue and also be around 40 to 46 degrees Celsius over parts of NIK districts, such as Raichur, Kalaburgi, Yadgir, Bellary and Vijayapura districts till May 6, the natural disaster management centre said on social media platform X.

The remaining NIK districts, most of the SIK districts and Dakshina Kannada district are likely to experience maximum temperature between 40 and 44 degrees Celsius, it added.

Parts of Kodagu, Udupi, Hassan, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and parts of Uttara Kannada districts are likely to experience between 33 and 40 degrees Celsius till May 6, according to the centre.

From May 7, maximum temperatures are likely to come down by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius across the state, according to KSNDMC.

Meanwhile, as per realised rainfall across the state data by KSNDMC, while isolated rains were observed in six districts -- Haveri, Dharwad, Gadag, Vijayapura, Shivamogga and Uttara Kannada -- dry/negligible rains were received in 25 districts, including Bengaluru rural and urban on April 30.

Maximum rainfall of 35mm was recorded at Bhogavi in Haveri district.

As per the cumulative date of rainfall from January 1 to April 30, only coastal Karnataka recorded an excess of 59% rainfall from usual, while the rest of Karnataka had deficit rainfall ranging from 13% to 80%, said a press release by KSNDMC, which compiles the data from telemetric rain gauge locations established by it across the state.

Karnataka: BJP leader and advocate G Devaraje Gowda was arrested in connection with a sex abuse video allegedly belonging to Hassan JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna.

According to police, Devaraje Gowda was arrested at Gulihal tollgate by the Hiriyur police in this district on Friday night for leaking the video in a pen drive.

He was arrested on a tip-off received by the Hassan police, which wanted his presence for the case.

Several explicit videos involving Prajwal started making the rounds ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, which took place on April 26.

The MP, a grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, is absconding and a 'blue corner' notice has been issued against him by Interpol.

Three FIRs, including charges of rape, molestation, intimidation, blackmailing and threatening, have been registered against Prajwal.

Devaraje Gowda is accused of leaking these videos, which he has categorically rejected.

He contested in the 2023 Assembly elections against JD(S) MLA from Holenarasipura H D Revanna.

H D Revanna, father of Prajwal, is at present in jail on charges of kidnapping a woman, a mother of three.

Ahead of polls, Devaraje Gowda had warned BJP’s central leadership against backing Prajwal Revanna and brought his sex scandal to light.
