
Mangaluru, Mar 21: The fourth edition of the Mangalore Premier League returned to its home environs after a one-and-half-year gap with a grand opening ceremony at Dr B R Ambdekar Stadium, Panambur, on the outskirts of the city.
The formal inaugural ceremony was preceded by two matches and succeeded by one on Tuesday, March 20, which marked the beginning of the biggest cricket event of the coastal Karnataka.
The T20 cricket tournament is being jointly organized by the Brand Vision Events, Mangalore Occasionals and Sea Bird Cricket Academy with the approval and guidance of Karnataka State Cricket Association.
Roshen Silva and Milinda Siriwardana, the two international cricket players from Sri Lanka were the inaugurators.
Speaking on the occasion, former Indian cricketer Raghuram Bhat called upon the young cricketers to make the best use of the platform that organizers of the MPL have provided to them.
Alex Louis of DNI, the title sponsors, lauded the organizational acumen of Mohammed Sirajuddin and Imthiyaz in organizing the event for the last four years.
As many as 12 teams are vying for top honours. Three matches a day will be played till March 29. Qualifier I and II will be played on March 30, the semi-finals on March 31 and the grand finals on April 1.
