Rs. 5 lakh for paralympics silver medallist

H N Girisha, a physically challenged youth won a silver medal in London Paralympics in high jump.

However, Girisha could have lost interest after he was scolded by his sports teacher for wanting to represent his school at the taluk level sports meet in 2003. He won the first prize in that competition.

His parents Nagarajegowda and Jayamma are farmers and the family depends upon two acres of dry land for their livelihood. Girisha did his primary and secondary education in Hosanagara, Konanura government high schools, PUC in Sirangala and completed his degree in Gorur first grade college in Arkalgud taluk.

He bagged gold and silver medals in Mysore University- level and state-level events. He represented India in Ireland, Malaysia, Kuwait, and Asian games. Vice-president of Karnataka State Sports Authority Girish Patel announced `5lakh cash prize for Girisha
