When Sachin Tendulkar takes field today against England in the first Test in Ahmedabad, he will turn 23 years old in international cricket.

Players of that age are now playing in the Indian team.

Tendulkar made his international debut against Pakistan on November 15, 1989 in the first Test at Karachi. He had scored 15 runs in that match.

Since then he has scored 15533 runs in 190 Tests and 18426 runs in 463 ODIs. And while accumulating these runs, he went on to score 100 international centuries (51 in Tests, 49 in ODIs).

And it has not been an easy journey for him. Carrying the hopes and expectations of a billion Indians for over two decades without ever complaining, has made him a legend and a role model for budding cricketers.

For his extraordinary services to the game of cricket, Sachin was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the President of India earlier this year.
