New Delhi, Feb 24: Nathan Lyon took his second wicket when he had Virat Kohli caught by Mitchell Starc at mid-on on the third day of the first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

Captain MS Dhoni hit his 29th half-century just before Kohli hit his fourth hundred as India crossed the 300-run mark.

The milestones came soon after lunch as both batsmen, specially Dhoni took the attack to the Aussies and reached his fifty off just 59 balls.

India did well in the first session to put on 81 runs for the loss of just one wicket. The Australians bowled disciplined lines and length early in the morning which pegged the Indians back.

Sachin Tendulkar got into a bit of shell and lost his wicket to Nathan Lyon. Pattinson was pretty impressive with his probing stuff.

But then Kohli and Dhoni got into the act and took the pressure off as they added unbeaten 67 runs and make sure that there were no more slip-ups.

Lyon clean bowled Tendulkar with a brilliant delivery as India lost their fourth wicket.

Bowling his second over of the day, Lyon bowled a classic off-spinner's delivery to get the big wicket of Tendulkar. The delivery was loopy outside off and hit the rough patch and spun back in sharply.

Tendulkar leaned forward for a drive but got a slight inside edge but that was not enough to stop the ball from sneaking through and rattling the timber.

Tendulkar hit 7 fours in his brilliant innings of 81 runs.

The breakthrough came after Tendulkar and Kohli resumed the Indian first innings to start the day's play.
