Kolkata, Nov 8: Right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami on Friday registering the second best figures for India on debut, taking nine for 118 in the first Test match against the West Indies in Kolkata.

Shami played a crucial role in India’s win by an innings and 51 runs at the Eden Gardens, taking four for 71 in the first innings while grabbing five for 47 in the second.

In the first innings, Shami rocked the West Indies middle-order by removing the in-form Marlon Samuels and Denesh Ramdin in quick succession, putting the hosts on the backfoot.

The Indian pacer repeated his performance in the second innings when he dismissed Ramdin in the 37th over of the innings, and then put West Indies under tremendous pressure by cleaning up their captain Darren Sammy and Shane Shillingford in the 48th over.
