Udupi, Mar 11: Viswhesha Tirtha Swami, the chief pontiff of Pejawar Mutt, has deiced not to interfere in the issue of his Shiroor Mutt counterpart’s decision to take a political plunge by contesting in upcoming Karnataka assembly polls from Udupi constituency.

Responding to queries of media persons, the Pejawar seer, who is who is the senior-most among the seers of the Ashta Mutts of Udupi, said that he will neither support nor oppose Lakshmivara Tirtha Swami’s move.
“In a democracy matters such as contesting elections was left to individuals. Hence, Shiroor seer himself has to take a right decision. I have nothing to say on it,” he said.
Asked if the Shiroor seer had sought his advice, he said: “I did not know about it, I only learnt about it now. I have no opinion to offer. It is their desire. But I will not contest any elections.”
