Probe launched after Riyadh workshop fire kills 10

Riyadh, Oct 16: An investigation has been launched to ascertain the cause of a fire at a carpentry workshop in the capital’s Badr district that left 10 people dead and three others injured early Sunday morning.

“The Riyadh Civil Defense put out a fire that broke out at a carpentry workshop in the Badr district of Riyadh,” the Saudi Civil Defense wrote on its official Twitter account.

The Civil Defense said in post on its official Twitter account that the identities of those who died in the fire are still unknown.

Firefighters were shown trying to extinguish the blaze as it engulfed the workshop.

The Directorate of Civil Defense in Riyadh said in a statement that its control room received a report at around 4.17 a.m. Sunday about a fire in a carpentry workshop in Badr district.

The Civil Defense and Red Crescent teams saw huge flames of fire and fumes billowing from the entrance of the workshop.

Firefighters battled the blaze that engulfed the workshop spread on an area of over 600 square meters. Wood, sawdust and paint drums that were kept in front of the workshop helped in spreading the fire.
