During the previous presidential elections in Puttur CMC, six members from the Congress party Jagadish Nellikatte, Naveenchandra Naik, Seema Gangadhar, Rekha Yashodhar, Deeksha Pai and Kamala Anand had voted against the official Congress candidate Muhammed Ali resulting in Jagadish Nellikatte being elected as the president of the CMC with the support of BJP members.
Muhammed Ali had filed an appeal in the court of deputy commissioner urging the disqualification of the membership of the six members alleging that they had voted against the party's official candidate violating the anti-defection law.
Finding the contention filed by Muhammed Ali to be true, the court on Monday ordered the disqualification of membership of all six members who were found to have voted against their party candidate in clear violation of the Karnataka Local Authorities (prohibition of defection) Act-1987.
