Mangalore, Sep 20: The deadly leptospirosis (rat fever) has claimed one more life in Dakshina Kannada district. A 38-year-old man from Puttur taluk is the new victim of this disease.

He had complained that his body was aching for two days and he was treated by a local doctor. On September 17, he was referred to a private hospital in Puttur when he got a fever too.
The preliminary œcard test performed at the hospital showed Iyatappa positive for the disease. He was brought to the Government Wenlock Hospital on Thursday morning.
District Disease Surveillance Officer B.V. Rajesh said Iytappa died an hour after he was admitted at Wenlock. Iytappa also had hepatomegaly, a condition where the liver is enlarged, he said. The health personnel on Saturday will visit fields where Iyatappa worked, he said.
