Sullia, Oct 24: Two hardline groups of self-proclaimed saviours of Hindutva on Wednesday clashed Kashikatte near Subramanya over a trivial issue.
The clash was the result of the raging controversy between Kukke Subrahmanya Kshetra and Samputa Narasimha Mutt.
Young Hindutva chauvinist Chaithra Kundapura and Hindu Jagarana Vedike Sullia taluk secretary Guruprasad had engaged in mudslinging over the issue on social media. Backing the Mutt, Chaitra had repeatedly criticised the ‘sarpa samskara’ being held in the temple.
On Wednesday Chaitra, along with her supporters clashed with Guruprasad and his supporters at Kashikatte. In the melee, the supporters of Chaitra allegedly assaulted Guruprasad with a rod. He was immediately taken to a hospital.
Subramanya police rushed to the spot and took seven persons including Chaitra into custody. Investigations are on.
