Mangaluru, Jul 27: Two days after he went missing in Bengaluru, a high school boy was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a lake near Guruvayanakere in Belthangady taluk on the outskirts of Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district yesterday.

The deceased is Yashwant Sai (16), a Class 10 student of ITI Vidya Mandir in Dooravaninagar, Bengaluru. He was staying with his grandparents at Muniswamy Shetty Layout in Hoodi under the limits of Mahadevapura police station. His parents live in Kuppam in Chittoor of Andhra Pradesh.
Police are yet to determine whether this was a case of suicide or if there was any foul play. No injuries were found on his body, according to police.
On Tuesday, around 8 am, Yashwant was dropped at Hoodi bus stand by his grandfather HM Tyagaraj. He was supposed to return by 4.30 pm but he did not. Tyagaraj searched for him at his relative’s houses and did not find him. On inquiring with the school staff, he learnt that Yashwant had not attended classes. On Wednesday, he filed a missing person’s complaint with the Mahadevapura police. The very next day his body was found.
It was reported that he had written in his dairy that he was going to Udupi and had to work there for five months. But the Mahadevapura police said that no such thing had come to their notice and Yashwant’s parents had suspected that he had left the city as he was upset over not being able to study well. Head master of ITI Vidya Mandir Narasaiah, however, said that Yashwant was a bright student, who mingled with all happily.
