Kannuru, Nov 24: Six Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers were sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of murder of Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker T. Ashraf at Panur in 2002.
The Additional District Sessions Court at Thalassery sentenced RSS workers T.K. Subin alias Jithu (37), P. Aneesh (39), E.P. Rajeevan alias Poocha Rajeevan (41), P.P. Purushothaman (37), N.K. Rajesh alias Reju (44) and K. Ratheeshan (39).
The court ordered them to pay a fine of Rs. 50,000 each to be paid to dependents of the slain.
The convicted should undergo an additional one-year term if the fine is not paid. Ashraf had been hacked to death when he was in a vehicle showroom at Panur on February 5, 2002.
The court ordered that each convict also undergo a 10-year imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs. 20,000 for trespass in the shop.
Non-payment of fine would extent the prison term to additional six months. The convicts should undergo separate prison terms concurrently, the court said. Public prosecutor B.P. Saseendran and additional public prosecutor K.P. Binish were present for the prosecution side.
