Mangaluru, Dec 30: The Sullia bandh call given by local organisations to protest against the recommendations of Kasturirangan Committee declaring many areas in the taluk as ecologically sensitive areas evoked good response on Tuesday.

All shops and business establishments were closed from dawn-to-dusk. The bandh was jointly called by Malenadu Jana Hitarakshana Vedike, Malenadu Janti Kriya Samiti and Raita Hitarakshana Vedike.
Interestingly activists cutting across party lines supported the bandh and staged a massive protest in Sullia town.
Sullia BJP MLA S Angara led the protest rally in which activists of Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist) also took part collectively raising their voice against K Kasturirangan Panel's report on conservation of the Western Ghats. The protesters converged in front of Taluka office.
The panel had recently recommended to declare 17 villages of Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district as eco-sensitive. More details to follow.
