Suratkal, Nov 6: Surathkal-based businessman Satish Baikampady, who is named as the main accused in Mogaveera leader Gangadhar Pangal murder case was arrested by Suratkal police on Wednesday.

Following the death of Gangadhar, other accused Harish Baikampady and Bhaskar Baikampady were arrested by the police while Satish Baikampady evaded arrest and was said to be absconding.
However, he secured anticipatory bail from the High Court with the contention that few people had raised false allegations to spoil his reputation when he did not have anything to do with the murder.
Recently, Hosabettu Mogaveera Sangha and Yelu Patna Mogaveera Samyukta Sabha had filed a complaint alleging Satish Baikampady was responsible for the death of Basavaraj in a similar hit-and-run case that took place near Hosabettu on May 14, 2013.
The hit-and-run accident had occurred when Gangadhar Pangal had been riding pillion on a two-wheeler along with Basavaraj in Surathkal limits. In the accident, Basavaraj was killed while Gangadhar Pangal suffered injuries but managed to survive.
Members of the Mogaveera community alleged that Satish Baikampady was behind the attack on Gangadhar in the earlier accident as well. Several community members had attempted to besiege the Panambur police station on Tuesday, demanding the immediate arrest of Satish.
Satish Baikampady was arrested as an accused in the murder case of Basavaraj after a preliminary investigation by the police. If his involvement in the murder case is proven, there could be others arrested in connection with the case shortly. Meanwhile, further investigation is on under the guidance of Mangalore DCP (Crime & Traffic) Vishnuvardhan.
