Bengaluru, Mar 3: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday asked women to fight for their right for political reservations.
Speaking after inaugurating the two-day 'Women of Worth (WoW) Karnataka 2018' summit, the chief minister said: "Equal rights should be given to women in all fields, especially in politics and administration. Since 1996, the Women's Reservation Bill that provides for reserving 33% of the total seats in the Lower House of Parliament is pending before Parliament. Women should fight for their political rights."
Women turning entrepreneur is a good move, Siddaramaiah said, and added that the state government in the 2018-19 budget has set aside Rs 34,388 crore for women development. The government is also planning separate budget for women, he said.
He launched K Ratna Prabha Aspiring Women Foundation on the occasion. The Foundation named after Chief Secretary Ratna Prabha is based in Bidar.
Siddaramaiah also laid the foundation for Special Women's Tech Parks that are coming up at Harohalli near Kanankapura in Ramanagaram district, Hubballi, Dharwad, Mysuru, Ballari, and Kalaburagi. Industries Minister R V Deshpande said that Bengaluru tops among cities with 25% working women.
