Mangaluru/Udupi, May 20: A total of 10,271 nominations were filed in Dakshina Kannada district for the gram panchayat polls. Among them as many as 4,179 nominations were filed on May 18, the last day for filing nominations.
According to a press release, out of the total 4,179 nominations filed on Monday, a total of 1,314 nominations were filed in Mangaluru taluk, 1,145 in Bantwal, 648 in Beltangady, 711 in Puttur and 361 in Sullia.
Among the 10,271 nominations, 815 have been filed by persons belonging to Scheduled Caste, 609 have been filed by Scheduled Tribes, 2,147 by Backward Class A category, 518 by Backward Class B category and a total of 6,182 nominations have been filed by persons belonging to general category. Interestingly, a total of 4,331 women are in fray.
The elections will be held in Dakshina Kannada on May 29 for 3,399 seats in 227 gram panchayats. The last day to withdraw the nominations is May 21.
A total of 6,623 nominations have been filed for 2,398 seats in 155 gram panchayats in Udupi district. Out of the total 6,623 papers, 2,587 were filed on the last day alone.
While 1,017 nominations have been filed for 875 seats in 62 gram panchayats in Kundapur taluk; 1,110 nominations have been filed for 1,031 seats in 59 gram panchayat seats in Udupi taluk; 460 nominations in 34 gram panchayats in Karkala taluk.
