Mangaluru, Mar 27: Two prestigious assembly constituencies in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada have been declared as ‘expense sensitive constituencies’ in the 2014 Karnataka assembly polls.
They are Mangaluru North, represented by B A Mohiuddin Bava, brother of billionaire industrialist BM Farookh, and Bantwal, represented by B Ramanath Rai, Minister for Forest Environment, Ecology and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge.
Sasikanth Senthil, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday told media persons that such a decision was taken by the State Election Commission (SEC) based on information obtained through state intelligence with regard to possible use of ‘money for vote’ in these two constituencies.
He said that the SEC will keep an extra vigil in these two constituencies to ensure free and fair election.
Senthil said that the Commission will form 24 Model Code of Conduct teams in the district to monitor violations on part of political parties. In addition, 26 surveillance teams, 26 flying squads and 26 check posts will be introduced to check violation of model code of conduct.
“Adding that additional observers will be deployed for Bantwal and Mangaluru North, which are declared as ESCs,” he added.
