4 Indians accused of killing Egyptians freed in Kuwait, kin heave sigh of relief

Kuwait City, Sep 1: With the construction company in Kuwait assuring all help to 9 Indians, mostly Punjabis, arrested by police following the death of two Egyptians in a fight between Indian workers and their Egyptian co-workers, their families can breathe a little easy.

"We were in panic till Friday, but my son Balwinder Singh has informed us that the company management has helped 4 out of 13 arrested Indians achieve freedom and assured that they would provide legal and other assistance to the 9 Indians in police custody," said Lakhwant Singh, a resident of Jalandhar whose son Balwinder Singh is a driver in the construction company.

"When the company management came to know about the scuffle, they immediately separated Indians and Egyptians to prevent further clashes," he added.

Apart from this, the company management had also assured that they would negotiate with the family members of killed Egyptian workers to settle the issue either by paying compensation or look into any other demands they may have. He said the company had even credited salaries of all the employees in their bank accounts.

Ajit Singh of Kapurthala whose son Jasbir Singh is also in the same company said, "My son told me over phone that company is very helpful and had assured all help to the arrested Indians."Jasbir is employed as a driver in the company. Ajit Singh said that earlier his son had voiced apprehensions of police picking them up.

Another resident of Faislabad, near Kapurthala, Sukhwinder Singh, whose brothers Manjit Singh and Daljit Singh also work in the same company, said, "I am feeling relieved after getting a phone call from Manjit Singh." He said the families of nine Punjabis apprehended in Kuwait were a worried lot and have urged the Indian government to initiate diplomatic measures to save them.

Families of two youths held by Kuwait police for alleged murder of two workers from Egypt have said that they were not getting any specific information about them.

Narinder Singh of Chooharwali village, near Jalandhar, said that his brother Tarsem Singh was among the Indians held on the murder charge. "His friends called us up to inform that he had been arrested by the police when he was cooking his food in their residential camp. They also told me that he was not involved in the brawl," Narinder said.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
