5 PWD officers arrested for selling illegal sand mining permits in DK, Udupi

The police have arrested five officers of the public works department in Chikkamagaluru on charge of selling illegally procured sand mining permits from the department of mines and geology.

Police sources said that the officers had created sand mining licenses using fake records and sold them in coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

There are a few complaints registered in this regard, in various police stations of the two districts.

Those being questioned include assistant engineer Lokesh, executive engineer Lokeshappa and two others.

Udupi district police are camping in Chikkamagalur for investigations.
