Bhatkal, Aug 10: At least five persons were killed and four others suffered critical injuries, when the car they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck in Ankola taluk of Uttara Kannada district last night.

There were nine persons onboard the car including children. The deceased have been identified as Prabhu Shiralashetti (45), Rudrappa Gurupadappa Kori (55), Suvarna Rudrappa Kori (45), Akash Mutappa Shiralashetti (12) and Saumya Angadi (10).
The victims, hailing from Jamanal of Vijaypura district were on their way to Kukke Subramanya Temple in Dakshina Kannada district.
According to sources, the driver of their Maruti Swift car bearing registration number KA 29 B 4291, lost control over the vehicle near Honnalli NH-63, and crashed into the truck.
The injured have been admitted to Karwar district hospital. A case has been registered at Ankola police station and investigations are on.
