
They were accepted to the folds of Buddhism in a ceremony held in a private meeting hall amidst tight security.
It is learnt that many people from Mangaluru were also among those who shunned Hinduism. An insurance officer from Mangaluru named Balakrishna had also taken part in the conversion.
Hundreds of people from Kerala and Karnataka had gathered in the conversion programme organised by the Kerala state unit of Prabuddha Bharata.
According to intelligence reports, people from Ilava, Yadava, Dalit and Mavilan communities were converted to Buddhism in the programme.
Since a mass conversion programme had been held for the first time by an organisation in Kasargod, heavy security arrangements had been made to prevent untoward incidents.
