Moodbidri, Jun 29: As many as sixty students from Alva 's College Hostel were hospitalized here after they complained of vomiting and diarrhoea.
According to District Health Officer H.S. Shivakumar, students had stomach problems after they consumed dinner. They were brought to Alva 's Hospital early on Saturday morning. While 60 students were under observation, the remaining were treated as out patients.

Chief Officer of Moodbidri Town Municipal Council has been directed to submit report following the incident. Assistant Commissioner of Mangalore Taluk and Mangalore tahsildar were directed to visit the spot, he said.
However, Chairman of Alva 's Education Foundation Mohan Alva said only two students were indisposed following vomiting and were in the hospital.
He said that there was no problem in the food the students had consumed in the hostel. “I myself had food in the hostel where a large number of students stay,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said directions had been issued to local bodies to ensure that the overhead water tanks of institutions and other prominent residential locations were cleaned on a regular basis.
