Mangaluru, Aug 7: Keeping in touch with the tradition of observing 'Aati Kalanja' during the monsoons, Dr Shivarama Karanth Pilikula Nisarga Dhama will organise 'Pilikula Aati Koota 2015' at Guthumane in the premises of the park at Moodushedde in the outskirts of the city on Sunday.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Friday, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said that several activities would be organised during the event with the intention of reviving the traditional folklore and rituals related to Aati Kalanja.
Executive director of Pilikula Nisargadhama S A Prabhakar Sharma said that from 10 a.m. onwards, there would be an Aati Kalanja dress competition for children, quiz on Tulu proverbs and traditional plants, Tulu folk songs singing competition, Chenne Mane competition, Yakshagana Talamaddale of 'Balarama Bhakti' and Chikkamela Yakshagana for the audience.
In addition, there will be Aati Kalanja dance by two troupes, magic show by magician Vishal Rao and Gopadkar in association with Swaroopa Kendra, as well as face painting by artists, he informed.
Other highlights include transplantation of paddy and coconut saplings, Aati special delicacies and fish delicacies, sale and exhibition of fruits, plants, homemade food products and handicrafts, and sale of fresh seafood by Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation.
Mr Sharma also said that there would be a philatelic and numismatic exhibition on the occasion, mainly on the subject of flora and fauna, in association with DK Philatelic and Numismatic Association.
There will a special Aati lunch at Guthumane for customers and patrons for Rs 250 per person. Advance tickets are available at 'Parampara', Kadri-Shivabagh in the city.
