Mangalore, May 26: The mandate given by the people is in clear favour of saffron ideology. This is the current mood of the country, said Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad national president Prof Murali Manohar.
Speaking at the inauguration of the four-day annual National Executive Committee meeting at Sanghaniketan in the city on Monday, he said that the organisation 's prime role in the country was not political change, but social change. The people of the country have high hopes and aspirations from the newly-elected government. They are hoping for a good and effective governance, while also hoping for the resurrection of the economy and amendments of laws. Moreover, they are hoping for a leader with clarity, courage and conviction, he said.
Addressing the gathering of representatives and office-bearers, he said that the organisation played a major role in registering first-time youth voters in the recently-concluded parliamentary elections and mobilised people and youth to participate in the elections. The role of ABVP to reach out to people through social networking sites is also significant. Thus, the organisation can claim a big role in the change in the political movement in the country, he said.
Speaking on the agenda of the NEC meeting, he said that there would be debates on 12 resolutions in the course of the four-day meeting. Issues of national importance such as security of women in the country and in college campuses, racist crimes and discrimination against students and youth belonging to the North East states and resolutions opposing privatisation and commercialisation of education will be discussed. Economic development and educational/academic policies should go hand in hand, he said, adding that the organisation would urge the government to introduce a comprehensive educational policy in the country.
ABVP national general secretary Shreehari Borikar said that the NEC would also discuss the strengthening and future strategies and activities of the organisation.
Over a hundred student and teacher representatives of the organisation, including various office-bearers from different states of the country participated in the meeting.
