Mangalore, Oct 14: Karnataka Tulu, Beary, Konkani, Kodava Sahitya academies and Karnataka Arebhashe Samskruti Mattu Sahitya Academy have jointly urged that the academies and respective heads should be included in majority of cultural events undertaken by the state government and district administrations.
Speaking at joint press conference organised by the heads of the academies here on Monday, president of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy B A Mohammed Haneef said that the five academies would work together to mutually promote the interests of the regional languages.
Welcoming the inclusion and participation of the academies of Tulu, Beary, Konkani and Arebhashe by Dakshina Kannada district administration in the Karavali Utsav being held in Mangalore this year, he urged the district authorities to include even the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy as a member of the core committees.
He announced that the five academies would jointly organise a joint conference of academies of all regional languages, authorities and research centres in the state in April or May in Mangalore next year.
The heads of academies announced their eagerness in considering representing and participating in conferences and events organised at the state-level in the coming days.
Mr Haneef also urged the district administration to deliberate and consider the participation of the mentioned academies in the Abbakka Utsava held annually in Ullal. He further requested that the academies should be asked for their suggestions for the recipients of the Rajyothsava awards in the district.
President of Tulu Sahitya Academy Janaki Brahmavar, president of Konkani Sahitya Academy Ronald S Castelino, president of Kodava Sahitya Academy Biddatanda S Thimmappa and office-bearers of the academies were present on the occasion.
