After VHP's call to ban their entry to garba, Muslims say thank you!

September 25, 2014

Ahmedabad, Sep 25: Muslims are coming out strongly with their own take on the œlove jihad campaign by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).

Former Congress MLA from Bharuch ” Mohammed Patel ” has written an open letter to VHP thanking the right wing outfit for imposing ban on Muslim boys participating in the garba.

Garba Muslims
Patel has questioned why checking of hotels and guest houses should not be done on other days through the year when Muslim and Hindu youth indulge in œsexual encounters . Patel thanked VHP from saving Muslims from committing sin under Shariat laws.

In his letter, Patel says, œI am grateful that the right wing organisations are doing what Muslim leaders failed to do to prevent their community members from joining garba festivities which is against Islam. We should guard our girls Hindu and Muslim to ensure that they do not cross the line of the religious sanctions to indulge in their social mingling.

Patel said he œfeels strongly about the love jihad concept and opposes inter-religious unions that require one partner to change their religion.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Patel said, œI feel that unless the two families consent to a relationship and it is based on unconditional love, it is wrong to get married to each other. Whether it is Hindu girls marrying Muslims or vice-versa.

In Vadodara, local Muslim leaders have warned their community members to stay away from the garbas in order to prevent any controversy.

Amin Syed, general secretary of Muslim Social Group in Vadodara, said, œThe entire controversy around Muslims being prohibited at garba venues is orchestrated to dent the image of Narendra Modi. The entire concept is misplaced as Muslims do not participate in the Navratri festival.

It is against Islam. But the two communities are unwittingly linked. Right from kites for Uttrayan, crackers for Diwali, decorations for Ram Leela, manufacturing of dandiyas and trendy outfits, Muslims are the traders and manufacturers and Hindus are the clients. The comments that promote communal friction should be ignored.

According to Syed, Vadodara has several cases of love marriages of Muslim girls into Hindu families, where the families have been harmoniously practising their own faiths too.

Meanwhile in Godhra, a doctor and prominent human rights activist Sujaat Vali has posted a message to PM Narendra Modi on his official website seeking his views over diktat passed by a right wing organisation seeking ban on Muslims from Garba premises.

Calling it a œconspiracy against Modi's own reputation, he said, œRespected Prime Minister of India, please make it clear, do you want to keep away Muslims from Garba grounds? I think a strong conspiracy is made against you.

Vali, who organises a garba event of his own every year, said the motive to keep Muslims from garba venue is discriminatory and an attempt to make certain community members feel inferior and anti-social, adding that his along with his garba-enthusiast wife, this is the first time he has faced discrimination on religious grounds.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rafiq Tijoriwala met the Panchmahals SP to seek assurance that Muslim youths would not be roughed up by œanti-social elements . œThere are at least five venues where garba is played on the road near Muslim locality and people from both communities pass through the road. We have asked our youths to stay away from the events to prevent any trouble, he said.

The Hindu Asmita Hit Rakshak Samiti in Godhra has written to the district administration seeking a prohibition on the entry of Muslims into the garba grounds. They have formed a group of volunteers that will keep a guard at venues to ensure that no Muslims slip in.

Udupi: A 40-year-old NRI from Udupi has reportedly lost more than Rs 12.25 lakh in an online investment scam operated through Telegram.

According to a complaint filed at the CEN police station, Leo Jerome Mendonsa, who has been working in Dubai for the past 15 years in computer accessories sales, maintains NRI accounts in Karkala and Nitte.

On November 12, 2025, Mendonsa was added to a Telegram group called Instaflow Earnings by unknown individuals. Users identified as Priya and Dipannita persuaded him to invest in “Revenue Tasks.” Initially, Mendonsa transferred Rs 1,100 multiple times and received the promised returns, encouraging him to continue.

On November 14, another user, Nishmitha Shetty, directed him to register on a website, digitvisionuoce.cc, and invest Rs 4 lakh in various shares. Over the next few days, he made multiple transfers totaling Rs 12,25,000, including Rs 50,000 via Google Pay, believing the scheme was legitimate.

After receiving the money, the alleged handlers stopped responding, and neither the invested amount nor the promised profits were returned.

The CEN police have registered a case under Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigations are ongoing.

Mangaluru: Chaos erupted at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) after IndiGo flight 6E 5150, bound for Mumbai, was repeatedly delayed and ultimately cancelled, leaving around 100 passengers stranded overnight. The incident highlights the ongoing country-wide operational disruptions affecting the airline, largely due to the implementation of new Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms for crew.

The flight was initially scheduled for 9:25 PM on Tuesday but was first postponed to 11:40 PM, then midnight, before being cancelled around 3:00 AM. Passengers expressed frustration over last-minute communication and the lack of clarity, with elderly and ailing travellers particularly affected. “Though the airline arranged food, there was no proper communication, leaving us confused,” said one family member.

An IndiGo executive at MIA cited the FDTL rules, designed to prevent pilot fatigue by limiting crew working hours, as the cause of the cancellation. While alternative arrangements, including hotel stays, were offered, about 100 passengers chose to remain at the airport, creating tension. A replacement flight was arranged but also faced delays due to the same constraints, finally departing for Mumbai around 1:45 PM on Wednesday. Passengers either flew, requested refunds, or postponed their travel.

The Mangaluru delay is part of a broader crisis for IndiGo. The airline has been forced to make “calibrated schedule adjustments”—a euphemism for widespread cancellations and delays—after stricter FDTL norms came into effect on November 1.

While an IndiGo spokesperson acknowledged unavoidable flight disruptions due to technology issues, operational requirements, and the updated crew rostering rules, the DGCA has intervened, summoning senior airline officials to explain the chaos and outline corrective measures.

The ripple effect has been felt across the country, with major hubs like Bengaluru and Mumbai reporting numerous cancellations. The Mangaluru incident underscores the systemic operational strain currently confronting India’s largest carrier, leaving passengers nationwide grappling with uncertainty and delays.
