
Balakishna Shetty, president of CITU addressing the protesters said that the Akshara Dasoha employees have been working for 13 years without employee benefits like pension or health insurance. “We urge the Union government and state to fix a minimum salary of Rs 10,000 to these employees, along with pension benefits,” he urged adding that the state has 1.4 lakh Akshara Dasoha employees.
He said that the Akshara Dasoha workers are performing their duties of giving nutritious food to food. They have been given additional work of giving milk, eggs and chapati to the students. They work from 8 am to 3 pm but the government has failed to recognize their hardwork and give them better pay.
He lamented over the dismissal of 42,000 Akshara Dasoha employees and also took exception to outsourcing of the project to organizations like ISKCON.
B Madhava, secretary, CPI (M) urging state government to revive the salary of midday meal workers in school said according to the survey midday meal workers do not get the minimum salary.
“If the government fails to consider the plea of employees then union will stage protest in Bangalore,” he warned.
Comparing the salary paid by Tamilnadu government he said that Rs 4, 500 is paid by Tamilnadu government but in Karnataka only Rs 1000 is being paid to employees for struggling in kitchen for long hours,” he said.
