Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar inspects COVID-19 vaccination arrangements at Manipal Hospital

Bengaluru, Jan 17: Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar on Sunday inspected the COVID-19 vaccination arrangements at Manipal Hospital on the second day of the program.

"I have inspected the arrangements here and I am satisfied with them. They are conducting the vaccination as desired by the government guidelines," Sudhakar told the reporters here.

Responding to a question regarding 62 per cent turn-out on the first day in Karnataka, he said, "We had official functions on the first day which delayed the vaccination drive by sometime. And, of course, people normally have some apprehension on the first day. So, I think 62 per cent is a good turn-out."

"A lot more facilities are being provided on the second day. Today, they are confident to achieve the target of 70 to 80 per cent," he added.

He also promised all the technical glitches related to the Co-Win app would be sorted out by Monday.

Sudarshan Ballal, the director of Manipal Hospital, took a jab of the vaccine on Sunday said that the vaccine is safe, efficacious, and has a good side-effect profile.

With a rise of 584 fresh covid cases, the total tally in the state today stands at 9,31,252.

Karnataka reported four fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative death toll to 12,162. It reported a total of 676 discharges on January 16, pushing the overall count to 9,10,377.

Ahmedabad, Jan 6: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientist, Tapan Mishra has claimed he was poisoned more than three years ago with deadly arsenic trioxide on May 23, 2017, during a promotion interview at ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru.

In a Facebook post titled ''Long Kept Secret'', Senior Advisor ISRO, Mishra on Tuesday claimed that in July 2017, Home Affairs security personnel met him and alerted him of arsenic poisoning and helped doctors to focus on the exact remedy.

Mishra said he later suffered from health issues including severe breathing difficulty, unusual skin eruptions, skin shedding and fungal infections.

Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, Mishra said, "Someone definitely wanted to do some harm to ISRO. The only solution is to catch the culprit and punish them. It's not possible to provide security to 2,000 scientists."

"I have posted everything on Facebook regarding the incident. I do not know the reason behind this but I can only guess that it might be a consequence of working on a critical technology. There might be other reasons as well," he added.

Mishra further said, it was important to bring this in public domain in order to save other scientists in future.

"People take advantage of the silence. Agencies are looking into it. Surely it was no work of a street thug but some sophisticated espionage agency inside our organisation," he added.

Mangaluru, Jan 12: Karnataka BJP chief Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the Congress leaders are engaging in levelling allegations unable to digest the victory of BJP-supported candidates in the gram panchayat elections.

He said that the Congress is facing the question of its existence. To remain active in media, the leaders are engaging in issuing statements daily.

The BJP-backed candidates have won in 3,714 gram panchayats in Karnataka. A total of 45,715 candidates have won the election. The BJP is preparing for the upcoming zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections by organising 'Jana Sevaka Samavesh' till January 13. Through the convention, the BJP will chalk out strategies for the upcoming elections.

Mr Kateel said that it is left to the discretion of the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to decide on the cabinet expansion. “Even I want six-time MLA S Angara to get the ministerial berth. However, the final decision will be taken by the Chief Minister. The ministerial berth will be given after considering the social and geographical area,” he said.
