“The present-day approach of educational institutions is to impart knowledge. We have taken up the task of providing skill to the youth of Mangalore and making them industry ready. Training, skill development and industry interface are the highlights of the course. We have tied-up with corporates and industries to bridge the skill gap that exists. We want to develop students holistically,” says Fr Swebert D'silva SJ, Principal, St. Aloysius College.

The course aims to educate those who are deprived of education after PU. This unique course provides a second chance for the drop outs and unemployed to pursue higher education that guarantees job and an adequate amount of stipend when one is studying. A conglomerate of the academia, government and the industry, mainly trains the deprived on the latest requirements of the industry.

“I was unable to study further as I could not afford to study. But this course has no fee at all and is also a skill based course. This is also convenient as I can earn and learn.” said an applicant, who had just completed PU and is currently employed in a private firm in Mangalore.

“The community college aims to help the school drop outs. The classes are also conducted at convenient timings. We will work with industry and business establishments from the local area to develop skills of the students to face challenges of the industry.” says Dr Lourdusamy, the course coordinator, St Aloysius Community college.

The programme will be administered in three stages - certificate, diploma and an associate degree. Certificate and diploma courses will have 6 months duration each and the associate degree will have duration of one year.

The college currently offers two certificate programmes - Travel and Tourism and Computer Animation and Networking.

The principal of the College has appealed to all those who are seeking jobs and who cannot pursue higher education to make use of this unique opportunity. There is no age bar to join community colleges.  The scheme helps one get education along with hands-on industry experience. Student will be given an allowance of Rs 1,000 every month during internship. The minimum qualification is PUC. There is no course fee.

St Aloysius College was granted the 'Community College' status from the present academic year (2013-14) by UGC on the recommendation of the state government.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
