Mangalore, Nov 26: Rotary Club, Mangalore Central in collaboration with Shri Bhoothanatheshwara Trust, will organise the 15th Annual Orphanage Olympics 2013, a day-long sports and cultural event for orphanage school children, in Shri Bhoothanatheshwara Trust premises, Badaga Yedapadavu on Sunday.
Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, organising committee secretary of the event Rajgopal Rai said that the annual event was being organised to promote and support orphanage children in Mangalore. Nearly 600 participants from 10 orphanages in the district are expected to take part in the event, he said.
He said that the event would commence at 9 a.m. and continue until 7 p.m. on Sunday. The children will be taken to the venue directly from the orphanages through buses, and the winners in the event will be given daily usable gifts, he said.
Speaking about the event, Mr Rai said that this year, village sports such as back balloon race, tyre race, slush race, throw ball, caterpillar race, kothlai bandi, arm wrestling, thappangai and tug of war would be organised in five categories. The programme will be inaugurated by former minister Amarnath Shetty and president of BJP district unit Pratap Simha Nayak, Vijaynath Vittal Shetty and Dr Bhaskar will be the chief guests, he said.
