Bangalore, Aug 15: A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) man was allegedly assaulted brutally by a gang of four unidentified persons in Vidyaranyapura on Thursday morning, triggering a protest by the RSS members in the area.
The victim, Phanindra (40), is a resident of Defence Colony in Vidyaranyapura. He is employed as a marketing manager in a private company. He was on his way to attend the RSS shakha near a playground in NTA Layout Road by his two-wheeler when he was waylaid by the gang and allegedly attacked him with lethal weapons and fled.
The victim told the police that he could not identify any of the attackers, who had approached him on motorcycles. Phanindra has been admitted to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital, where he is recovering.
Police said, they are attempting to trace the attackers.
Meanwhile, hundreds of RSS and BJP activists took out a rally in protest against the incident and demanded speedy police investigation. Nirmal Kumar Surana, State general secretary, BJP, said that they suspected that the attack was aimed at hindering the RSS activities.
