Thanks to his bravery Arron Salyer, who is currently working on the sea erosion project in Ullal, has also earned a number fans in the region.
It was Arron, an engineer from Australia, who first plunged into waters when five people among a group of over 20 people belonging to four families from Andhra Pradesh were swept away by high tides.
“Arron promptly jumped into the sea and pulled three of the drowning persons towards safety with the help of locals,” said an eye witness.
Arron rescued Ghousunnisa (30), Shakeela Banu (34) and Munni (20) from the water. The rescued are recuperating at a private hospital in Ullal. However, two others lost their lives in Wednesday's tragedy.
28-year-old Arron had arrived at Ullal two weeks ago and has since been working with the sea erosion project under Asian Development Board.
He says that since the seashores along the coastline were dangerous, a warning sign should be put up on the beaches cautioning tourists. Also, the presence of lifeguards along the beaches is essential, he said.
