Kundapur, Dec 8: Karnataka minister for infrastructure development and information R Roshan Baig has warned the people against misusing WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media to create communal unrest in the region.

Stating that social media has become a threat to the social health and communal harmony in recent days, he said that he would speak to Arun Jaitley, the union minister Minister of Information and Broadcasting, towards curbing wrong information and rumours on social media.
Prior to this, a delegation of Muslim leaders from Gangolli and surrounding areas met Mr Baig and complained that Sangh Parivar leaders were deliberately trying to disrupt communal harmony in the region by provoking the people.
The delegation also complained that communal forces were exerting pressure on police department against carrying out impartial investigation into the arson attack and communal clashes.
Naqwa Yahya Malpe, the president of Udupi district Wakf Advisory committee, G M Irshad, the president of Jamath-e-Muslimeen from Gangolli and others were present in the delegation. The minister exhorted them to maintain peace and urge the youth not to pay heed to any rumours.
