Kasaragodu, Oct 3: The police have identified the mastermind, a native of Kodagu district in Karnataka, behind the robbery of 20 kg gold ornaments and Rs.2.95 lakh in cash from the Vijaya Bank branch at Cheruvathur.
Five days after the incident, the police have established the identity of the suspect, presumed to be Ismail, 45, and efforts are under way to arrest him, Kanhangad Dy.SP K. Harishchandra Naik said.
Ismail is said to have hired the ground floor of the building and was engaged in renovation works to set up a fancy shop below the bank on the first floor of the building located on the railway station road at Cheruvathur.
As the renovation works were being done with the help of migrant labourers, who are absconding after the incident, the police had broadened the probe to other States, especially Odisha. The special squad meanwhile interrogated three persons in connection with the case.
