Bantwal, Jul 14: A group of alleged Bajrang Dal activists waylaid a cattle-laden vehicle near Vittla in in Bantwal taluk and assaulted three persons before handing them over to police.
The jurisdictional Vittla police reached the spot and took three victims into custody and also seized their vehicle along with four heads of cattle.
The victims have been identified as Moidu Kunchi (31), Abdul Hameed (28) and BA Moidu (38), all residents of Kasaragod.
In fact the trio were transporting the cattle they bought at Anekallu to Kasaragod.
They were supposed to pass through Bedagudde-Paivali route. However they took a wrong route and reached Kanyana village.
Meanwhile, a few Sangh Parivar activists, who received information about cattle transportation, intercepted the vehicle and assaulted the trio. The victims were later given treatment at a hospital in Vittla.
Two cases were registered in connection with the incident at Vittla police station. The victims were booked for transporting cattle without permission.
The victims also have lodged a complaint against local resident Satish Shetty and five others for unprovoked assault.
