Mangaluru, Nov 13: The government has provided Rs. 5 lakh as compensation to the family of Harish, aged 28, who was stabbed to death at Manihalla in Bantwal taluk on Thursday, according to B. Ramanath Rai, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada.
He told the media on Friday that in addition, the Congress would collect some amount for his family. The Minister said the victim did not belong to any organisation and was innocent. He has become a victim of a fight between communal forces attached to majority and minority communities, Said Mr. Rai.
Special police team has been constituted to arrest the persons behind the attack. He appealed to the people in the district to maintain peace.
The Minister said communal forces attached to both majority and minority communities were dangerous to society.
He said that the government would re-think on allowing any programmes of forces like Bajrang Dal and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in the district in future. Disciplinary action would be taken against such forces if they conducted any programme. Earlier, the Minister and Ivan D’Souza, MLC, visited Mr. Harish’s family.
