Mangaluru, Oct 18: The Beary community is in the forefront in stressing on communal harmony, said former education minister BA Mohiuddin.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 'Beary Women, Literature and Cultural Celebration' organised by Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy at Krishnapura in Suratkal on Saturday, as part of its month-long celebration.
He said that the work of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy in dispelling the notion of reservation against 'Beary' among people is commendable.
Mangaluru North MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava presided over the programme. President of the academy B A Mohammed Haneef spoke on the significance of the Beary month-long celebration.
Karnataka State Minorities Development Corporation former president N B Aboobaker, MUDA commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, Mangalore University Senate member Riyaz Hussain Bantwal, Noorul Huda Educational Institution convenor P A Ilyas, editor of Anupama monthly Shahnaz M, Akhila Bharat Beary Parishat founder-president Hussain and others participated in the programme.
Beary women achievers Mariam Ismail (literature), Mariamma Krishnapura and Khateejamma were felicitated on the occasion.
On the occasion, the book 'Kuraase' penned by Mariam Ismail was released by former Mayor Gulzar Banu.
