Mangaluru, Jun 13: "Oonu-theen" - a book of recipes from cuisines of Beary community in Beary language - was released at a programme organised by Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, Mangaluru here on Saturday, along with the release of 'Belkiri' bi-monthly magazine, which was previously a tri-monthly.
Oonu-theen, with nearly 100 recipes ranging from breakfast items to biryani and desserts, is the first recipe book in Beary language to be penned by writer Mariyam Ismaeel.
Speaking after releasing the recipe book, editor of Anupama monthly magazine Shahnaz M said that people should try to embrace the traditional homemade dishes which taste better than those in fast food joints. Today's young generation does not wish to consume homemade dishes; instead, we are approaching a fast death by craving and consuming more fast food in the present world. We should take note of the recipes compiled in the recipe book and make healthier dishes at home, she said.
Mangaluru Urban Development Authority commissioner Mohammed Nazeer released the bi-monthly magazine Bilkiri, the magazine brought by the Beary Academy, and spoke on the occasion.
Beary Academy president B A Mohammed Haneef presided over the programme and said that the Academy would shortly bring out a dictionary and grammar book of Beary language. A film in Beary language Saakshi was in its final stage of production, he informed the gathering.
Speaking on the occasion, lecturer at Badriya First Degree College, Mangaluru Shakeena Yahya said that the book was a complication of healthy recipes which were written in easy-to-read steps, including different types of biryani, sweets, cakes, vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.
Registrar of the Academy Umarabba welcomed the gathering. Principal of Badriya College, Mangaluru Dr N Ismail, litterateur B A Mohammed Ali and several others were present on the occasion.
