Bengaluru, Oct 18: Rain that lashed parts of Bengaluru yesterday threw life out of gear, flooding roads and triggering traffic chaos for hours. The city recorded a rainfall of 45.3mm by 9pm Wednesday.
The BBMP received most waterlogging complaints from Sirsi Circle flyover, Mysuru Road, JC Road, Gandhinagar and Shantinagar.
Hundreds of holiday-goers driving out of the city were stuck in traffic snarls. Traffic nightmares haunted the motorists in Bengaluru again when the rain returned in the night after a couple of hours of break.
Motorists using the Sirsi Circle flyover had a tough time because of flooding. Several other areas such as Shanthinagar, Mysuru Road near Gali Anjaneya Temple, and Lalbagh saw slow traffic movement.
Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun, who was coming from Rajarajeshwarinagar, was stuck for half an hour on the Sirsi Circle flyover. “Clogging of the passageway with plastic led to water stagnating on the flyover. We summoned the Prahari vehicle and the blockage was cleared. Traffic was then restored,” she said.
Traffic was also hit for some time near the BDA office after a tree fell on the road. Meanwhile, the holiday rush added to the chaos. With several people heading out of the city ahead of Ayudha Pooja and the weekend, Namma Metro trains were packed. The Majestic bus stand and roads leading to it also saw a heavy rush of travellers.
